We go out of our way to make sure our workplace is also a happy place where people are supported, everyone is equal and all are committed to developing and delivering the best possible solutions for our clients.
And everything we do is informed by our values of teamwork, excellence, innovation and respect. These values have helped us to put in place all of the things that enable a good work/life balance and enhance wellbeing such as flexible working policies, health care and daily free fruit. You’ll also quickly find we’re a fun, friendly bunch who get together to socialise and give back with charity fundraisers throughout the year. Read more about our culture here.
I joined as a graduate straight out of UU in Coleraine – my hometown! The recruitment process wasn’t stressful at all as I had plenty of time to do the technical which included three questions on logic, problem-solving and coding. And the interview went well because shortly after I was told I was successful. Almost from the beginning I went straight into developing a training product based around a real live insurance product. So I’ve quickly grown my problem-solving skills, been introduced to new programming languages and increased in confidence.
Everyone’s been friendly and approachable from day one. I can see how their commitment is helping the company to grow and everyone helps each other when they can. I get to work independently as part of each project team, which means every day is different and there are new challenges to overcome. It’s really rewarding to see my development work get signed off and go live.
Right now, I’m being sponsored to do the Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate exams and looking forward to learning much more. There are many ways to further learning here, both in the office and independently.
The balance is good too – because we work flexibly, if I’m in before 9, I can get away before 5. It makes all the difference to my day!
People here have been welcoming and supportive from the moment I joined. Two years later and nothing has changed.
Everyone’s supportive and there’s always someone you can ask any questions. Especially those with their own areas of expertise who are willing to share their knowledge. Plus, there are many opportunities for those who want to take them. I’m working towards the Certificate in Insurance (Cert II) form the Chartered Insurance Institute and I’ve even completed a First Aid Certificate which will always come in handy!
I live nearby so I can walk, cycle or drive to work. And there’s a car park so parking is easy too. The hours are flexible, so I can arrive and leave early if I want. Sometimes I’ll go home for lunch but we have a great kitchen here with panini and smoothie makers. Plus there are great cafes and shops nearby too. When we get a big project over the line, Covernet buys everyone pizza for lunch.
The team is really social – we play five-a-side once a month and there’s a charity draw with proceeds split between the winner and the Northern Ireland Hospice. We even go out for dinner and to the cinema together.
I enjoy learning more about the Covernet systems as part of my every job. I get a great sense of satisfaction from understanding the complexities of each piece of functionality and figuring out how making changes in one area impacts the rest of the system. I also enjoy the variety in my role, working on different systems as well as working on internal processes and jobs means that I never get bored of what I’m doing.
